Orcharding for the Homeowner
Orchardist Alan Surprenant will be teaching a four-part, four season workshop on growing tree fruit in your home orchard. The workshops will take place at Brook Farm Orchard (a VCLT leasehold) in the Apple valley section of Ashfield, MA. The workshops will cover all the aspects to growing healthy tree fruit in your own home orchard. Pruning, fertilizing, site preparation, varietal selection, spraying, planting, picking, cider making, varietal tasting, rodent control, hard cider sampling and much more. In the May workshop participants will graft their own apple tree to bring home and plant to get your orchard started or add to an existing one.
The workshop dates are February 18th, May 19th, September 9th, and November 10th. There is a fee of $85 per workshop or the entire series for $300 ($40 discount). A delicious lunch will be provided at each workshop.
